Private College Dorm in Downtown Waterbury Proves Successful; UConn’s Avery Point Campus Leaders Express Interest

UConn Considering Student Housing Expansion Near Avery Point Campus in Groton

Are you a student at UConn’s Avery Point campus in Groton? Well, get excited because there may be new residential space coming your way!

UConn officials have been in talks with Joseph Gramando, managing partner of Green Hub Development, about the possibility of adding student housing near the Avery Point campus. This isn’t the first time Green Hub has worked with UConn – they previously brought dormitory housing to the Waterbury campus in 2017, transforming a vacant building into dormitory suites for students.

Unlike the Waterbury project, Avery Point doesn’t have large empty buildings ready for conversion, so Gramando’s idea is to build student housing on space granted through a long-term land lease. While talks are still in the early stages, the potential for new student housing is an exciting prospect for the campus, which enrolled 531 students this fall.

Gramando’s vision for student housing aligns with UConn’s goal of providing a true college experience for students. The Waterbury dormitory offers resident advisors, study hall rooms, and a variety of events for students to enjoy. With a focus on convenience, safety, and community, the dorm has been a hit with students and parents alike.

In addition to the potential student housing near Avery Point, Green Hub is also working on rehabbing a historic building near the UConn campus in Waterbury for university programs and classes. This expansion is expected to increase demand for student housing in the area.

So, if you’re a student at UConn’s Avery Point campus, keep an eye out for updates on the potential new residential space coming your way. With a focus on providing a true college experience for students, the addition of student housing near the campus could enhance your time at UConn and create a vibrant community for all students to enjoy.
